There is an art to breathing. An easy exhalation prompts the full and easy inhalation.
Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing® is a 60-hour postgraduate certification program for Alexander Technique teachers. The Art of Breathing is a distinct and cohesive method for restoring natural breathing rhythms and psychophysical balance. The technique integrates Jessica’s work in respiratory science and education with the principles of F.M. Alexander’s Technique and Carl Stough’s Breathing Coordination.
The curriculum is designed specifically for Alexander teachers and provides a structured methodology of principles and hands-on procedures. Graduates of the program enhance their teaching with tools that promote respiratory ease, vocal resilience, and overall wellbeing.
What distinguishes the Art of Breathing is its specific focus on the breath—its quality, flow, rhythm, geography, and motion—supported by hands-on guidance.
F.M. Alexander recognized the vital role of the respiratory system in improving Use. The Art of Breathing builds on this insight with practical procedures that restore the movement and sensation of breath, enabling a more expanded, dynamic body.
Certified teachers develop skills to explore internal movement and strategies to facilitate awareness, inhibition, and direction. Student learning is elevated through the ease and efficiency with which they integrate new sensory appreciation. Breathing is not separate from Use, but intrinsic to it.
Teachers find that Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing becomes inextricable from their Alexander Technique teaching, with its integration into lessons seamless and profound. Breathing becomes a whole-body experience, connecting emotional life, presence, and physical vitality.
